1. Start practicing with people with whom you are easy:
Shy people are always scared to interact with
strangers but they should keep in mind that in order to achieve success in
career it is very important for them to follow the path of networking.
Therefore, it is advisable for them to practice interacting with people, with
whom they are comfortable. In the process of practicing, they should try to
introduce themselves, they should learn to describe their work in few
sentences, and likewise, they should practice to ask open ended questions. They
should also ask their friend or relative to ask them several questions so that
they can prepare the answer.
2. Do not let others to take an advantage of you:
Often it is seen that people in a workplace tend to take advantage
of individuals who are shy. They are quite familiar with the fact that no
matter how much a shy person is overloaded with work and his ideas are ignored,
he will never protest for the bad behavior. However, it is very important for a
shy person to remember that this kind of behavior won’t stop until and unless
he /she make an effort to stop it. Therefore, they should directly tell the
manager that he / she will not work if he/ she is not paid for the overtime.
Likewise, they should not hesitate to tell the manager about the office bully.
3. Choose Topics Related to Common Interest:
It is
always advisable for shy people to start conversing with people based on the
subjects that they are passionate and knowledgeable about. This is sure to make
the conversation uncomplicated. Likewise, they should keep in mind to choose
topics of conversation related to the common interest by keeping their ears and eyes open to identify other peoples’ interests. People
generally love to talk about their own interest; therefore, shy individuals
should use this as an ice- breaker to start their conversation.

Concentrate on the groundwork:
It is
quite a big challenge for shy people to face job interviews, presentations and
meetings with managers and co-workers. In order to improve their performance
during such kind of interactions, they should concentrate on the preparation by
taking adequate time. They should try to imagine the entire interview scenario
and ask themselves the questions that are more expected from the interviewers
or the boss and the co-workers during a presentation or a business meeting. With
regular practice they are sure to improve their interpersonal skills and can
feel more confident at work.
5. Listen Properly:
An individual is sure to improve his interpersonal skill by
listening. Likewise he is sure to achieve success in his career by knowing the
skill of listening. He will develop meaningful relationships,
professional responsiveness and the interpersonal skills that lead to success.
Shy people should listen carefully to people by checking out their mood and
body language and recapitulate a conversation when they get a chance to assure
the person that they are listening and understanding his conversation. This can
prove to be a way to enter new professional life.
